ABOUT OUR GUEST SPEAKERS & WORKSHOPS FACILITATORS
Chris Arnold is relatively new to printing, but has a background of mixing analogue and digital text art. His PhD project was part bookbinding, part 3D programming, and mostly poetry.
Bill Currie - Bill was a compositor at The West Australian newspaper for 16 years.
Beth George is an architect and Senior Lecturer at UWA’s School of Design with a teaching and research focus on design, drawing, and writing. Aside from a little experience in printmaking, working with letterpress technology was wholly new to Beth, and she came to it through a friend who had previously also had the privilege of being a resident at the Perth Letterpress Workshop.
Moveable Type Studio is a mobile letterpress print studio operating from a custom-fitted 40-foot shipping container. Founded by Clint Harvey, the studio tours regional Australia delivering hands-on letterpress workshops, place-based colour research and community activations. As 2025 Powerhouse Museum Research Scholars, Clint and studio coordinator Dzintra Menesis investigated historical printing inks from the F.T. Wimble & Co. archive, reconnecting plant-based lake pigment knowledge with contemporary letterpress practice.
Phil Gambrill is a graphic designer and teaches the Letterpress short course at North Metro TAFE and enjoys nothing more than lifting a fresh print from the press and marvelling at the wonderful imperfections caused by the aging wood type, whilst cursing in frustration as to why certain letters, just won’t print!
Perth Letterpress Workshops at North Metro TAFE - The Perth Letterpress Workshop is a unique teaching and cultural space located on Whadjuk Noongar Boodja in the heart of Perth. Both a functioning print studio and a living archive of typographic history, the workshop preserves and activates traditional letterpress practices through hands-on learning, creative experimentation, and contemporary printmaking. Home to an extensive collection of antique wood and lead moveable type, as well as historic presses including the remarkable 1816 Columbian “Eagle” Press, the facility supports students, artists, designers and visiting practitioners to engage deeply with the material and physical processes of print production. Through residencies, short courses and studio access, the workshop fosters a thoughtful and reflective approach to typography, craftsmanship and visual communication within an increasingly digital design landscape.
Vanessa Wallace’s art practice finds its focus through the use of multiple printmaking processes, with book making forming a central component. The works themselves often appear still and quiet, giving the veneer of calm, even if the text reveals something different.
P. James Bryans is a Western Australian printmaker, merging traditional screenprinting with digital processes, with over 40 years of practice. His work explores nostalgia, ephemera, and childhood wonder through mid-century imagery and layered, tactile, often three-dimensional prints that invite viewers to complete the story.

FAQs
What the heck is a WAYZGOOSE?
Wayzgoose was originally an entertainment given by a master-printer to his workmen to mark the beginning of the season of working by candlelight. In later use, it meant an annual festivity held in summer by the employees of a printing establishment, consisting of a dinner and (usually) an excursion into the country. In more recent times it has become a celebration held by printing and printmaking studios/communities where artists, craftspeople, technicians and printers get together to celebrate their work with their friends and families.
